changing brands again I suppose
I drank Molson Ex for 20 years and changed to Lakeport on the day they shut down the Barrie brewery as excess capacity. They put several of my friends out of work and although the city council try to gloss over the damage to our city, the damage is part of the ongoing trend of plant closures over the years. Molson only had the brewery because they bought up the old Formosa breweries years ago to eliminate the competition, Formosa was the place where you went to get beer during beer strikes if you were from Grey or Bruce counties because they never unionized. I drank Lakeport Strong for the first few years, changed to Ice for a few and then discovered Wee Willie- I was in heaven then. Well it's been a good few years, I hope I learn to enjoy Brick as much as I've enjoyed Lakeport because I'll be f**ked if I'll buy any slop Labatts brews (gives me the runs anyway).

The golden rule
As a union worker for 30 years, I've learned one thing, he or she who owns the gold, RULES. Since free trade came into effect, it made the corporations rule. The attittude is if you do not accept the contract, we will move south of the boarder down Mexico way or to the far east. I hope lakeport did not give up much. I hope they did not give you the *its very compeditive out there speech* good luck guys. P.S. greed is a terrible trait

Proud Hamiltonian
I am proud to live in Hamilton. It is so frustrating to see our City being taken apart little by little. All our factories are being sold out to foreign investors all because of the almighty buck! Labatt's beer is terrible. I have never liked it. I will never buy it. Lakeport is not only affordable but it tastes great compared to Labatts. As far as I'm concerned Teresa sold Lakeport out. She came in to supposedly save the brewery. I'm positive all that hard work she claimed was for the good of Hamilton was to benefit her and sell out the workers all along. After all that's what she did. Now she is consulting for Labatts? What a slap in the face. I guess the millions she was earning as CEO was not enough. Does she have a family to support? She has no idea what it takes. If she were my daughter I would be so disappointed.

Hey MR. Lakeport worker, if it wasnt for the seasonal workers you would not be making 24 bucks a hour, plus benifits and premiums.we made 13.00 an hour with no benifits or premiums and the union still took dues off us each month. Last contract they took 2.00 dollars off us seasonals to give to the fulltime workers. They can not do this this contrat because they are no more seasonals . you , my friend are screwed. A two wage systems sucks. P.S.your spelling is terrible. .

unhappy Italian
Although greed is not a crime, its the worst sin of all the deadly 7 deadly sins.Teresa promised she would not sell or close lakeport, not turn her back on her employees. Not only did she lie, she working for Labbatts as a consoltant. Like she still needs to work, she worth about 70 plus million.Teresa, please quit playing on your families roots. You know, father being a hard working steelman with iron and soot in his lungs and your mother being a hard and tierd seamtress. my parents worked hard and told my sisters and me to never complain and always help your nieghbours out. All this is publicity because you see Terese, true Italians are helpful and not selfish and greedy. p.s. i wonder how your family, mom and dad feel about this.

boycott labatts lakeport
I have been a lakeport seasonal worker for the last 2 years. I enjoyed working there until those Brazillian cut throats took over and slashed jobs. I hate to see another fine Canadian company go away like the dinosaurs! So why doesn't the business community of Hamilton turn their backs on these goofs and the bar and hotel owners boycott their products! I never did like labatt's products any way!

Lakeport strike
If I was a union exec I would hire a good private investigator to evaluate all of the Brazilians here on work visas. A little birdie tells me that there may be some hanky panky going on here, why else do all of them come in through the US and not directly from Canada. Why the hell do we need Brazilian management here, when there are more than enough capable people here in Canada to do those jobs. Look into this, it may be fruitful!! Fight fire with fire!!

These idiots have turned back good business practices and fair treatment of employees 100 years, all in the name of management bonuses ...which were at 120% last year ...did you know that? The top 50 to 100 managers made at least 100% of their salary as bonus last year, while the average Joe got overworked, underpaid and screwed.

If you Google Inbev you can find the original business plan for merging Interbrew and Ambev. The whole strategy was around the Brazilians cutting costs by over 30%. How would they do this? (i) cut advertising ...Molson/Coors captured 5% share in 2007; (ii) Airlift Brazilians into all the top corporate management positions; (iii) cut the workforce and underpay and overwork the remaining people; (iv) move as many jobs to Brazil as possible ...data entry etc.

I Wish You Luck
We had the same tactics pulled against us last contract and it will happen again to us. The letter to the residence is one of the lowest ideas the company came up with. It only gets worse I'm afraid to say. Their idea of employement is certainly different from what our culture is used to in the industrial sector. They will supply jobs in the long run, albiet Walmart style, IMHO. Oh the stories we could tell you about them and their tactics, but I digress (sp?) Good Luck and keep us posted In Solidarity A Fellow Brewery Worker

Stay Strong Guys!
They delivered a letter to you on Sunday? You mean it was hand delivered or through the post office? If it was hand delivered by someone they must of had help. I read that you guys have 200 employees and I'm sure they don't all live near the plant or in the city. Besides, I think that is illegal for the company to use a "scare tactic" like that on you. That is sort of an invasion of privacy. I would be seeing my lawyer with that letter. That is not good. I hope it works out for you guys.

A few questions from London... Are the parties still talking? Is there a deadline for a tentative agreement? It would be interesting to know if the letter you recieved is anything like the one we recieved just before the vote that resulted in our lockout for 17 weeks in 2002.

Contract Info
Thanks to you anonymous for your support in not purchasing their product if they close us, unfortunately, by then it's too late to send the message. Reasonable offer? Show me one and I'll take it! I hope you never EVER see what I saw today. A letter delivered to my home last night stating the highlights of THIER final offer. Only the highlights of course. They failed to mention the number of full time employees that would be put to the street, forced to work weekends against their will, or otherwise, displaced by temp employees. I'm not giving any details because I would be stooping to their level by doing so and trying to coerse you. And besides, if you're so anxious to hear what's going on, imagine how everyone else feels. Please be patient. This ain't gonna be pretty. I'm one of the first ones out the door. When all the dust settles, I hope everyone that reads this gives all their support to all my brothers and sisters, stay strong!!!

Hey Anyone know what has happened at the brewery, are they on strike/locked-out?? Fight the fight!! if you have to brothers and sisters, but beware the greed of the brazillians, they are scary in their lust for profits. We tried for 4 months and got spanked for it. Wish you luck A Fellow Brewery Worker

Stay Strong Guys!
So what is it that they want? If I was an employee I would take any reasonable offer. In my opinion it's better than being laid off. That's the way I look at it. If not what can I do? Strike? A strike would have no effect on the situation. To my understanding it's the union that is doing the negotiations and not the employees. I would let the workers have their final say. If worst comes to worst and you guys are shutdown, I and many of my friends and family will never purchase another Labatts product (including the Lakeport brand) again. I'm all behind the Hamilton based brewery and it's employees. Good Luck guys!

We were 200 Employees - Labatt cut us to 60!
Lakeport had 200 full-time employees at its production facility in Hamilton. Well it has been just over a year now and Labatts has done what it set out to do. They took this plant, legally over a period of time, and removed 80% of our product volume to another PLANT. We were told we were not profitable. A plant of over 200 employees working 24, 6 shifts a day, five days a week, and in as little time as 5 years acquires over 21% of the beer market - not profitable? YA RIGHT the CEO and share holders sure got a bundle for SELLING US OUT. We are now down to only 3 shifts 4 ½ days of production. Employing about only 60 hard working people now. Now they are threatening to close the doors, we are in the midst of contract negotiations. Company says they are at an impasse, if we don’t accept their offer they will close the doors.

Sad ...
It's a sad time indeed ... Labatts only bought Lakeport because Lakeport was hurting Labatts' bottom line, nothing to do with an entry into any marketplace, so when someone's hurting your bottom line you buy them out and shut them down. Labatts has been in the so-called "premium-beer" business too long, and their union(s) have driven up the overall expenses (i.e. wages) accordingly. Finally when we have a revolt against exhorbitant prices, and what does our fearless leader Teresa do ... with all those inserted messages I really thought she had a commitment ... guess her only commitment was to the almighty $
